To further understand the purpose of Moon Festival, let me share few historical facts regarding the festival.
Firstly, the Chinese ancestors believed that movement of the moon has close relationship with the changing of seasons and agricultural production. Therefore,to express their gratitude to the moon and celebrate their harvest, they offered a sacrifice to the moon on autumn days.
The custom is traced back in Zhou Dynasty(1046 - 256 BC) and was more often practiced by the royal class on the Autumnal Equinox. The festival experienced revolution in Sui(581 - 618 AD) and Tang (618 - 907 AD) dynasties, where social prosperity inspired the custom of appreciating the moon sacrifice among common people and later on merged with royal class customs. The common people expressed their faith more liberally than the royal class and did not restrict their activities on Autumnal Equinox. So August 15th of the Chinese lunar calendar, the
closest full moon day to the Autumnal Equinox, turned out to be a better
choice and was set as a fixed festival during Tang Dysnasty.Moon Festival become widely celebrated folk festival in Northern Song Dynasty (960 - 1127 AD).
A nice place to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival should be wide and
open, or high, or somewhere with water. Because one can appreciate the
full moon or moon reflection more easily in these places while eating
delicious moon cakes in the night full of silent .Generally in China this festival is widely celebrated and some of the places are included in the list of top places to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival.
First in list is Beijing. At Altar of The Moon, that is the place where the emperors of the Ming (1368 - 1644 AD) and Qing (1644 - 1911 AD) dynasties offered sacrifice to the moon. The architecture in it are related to moon and legends of Mid-Autumn Festival.
Other than that, people can appreciate the moonlight view together with manmade light at Taoranting Park. As you can see in this diagram below that this place is peaceful and you can feel the nature at this beautiful place. For me,if i have enough money, i will willing to go to this wonderful place because its actually attract me .
Next in this list is Shanghai. For me, Shanghai have a huge number of tourist in this city as the city are well known city to the world,Shanghai holds
various of mesmerizing spot to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. One of
the place is called Huangpu River which also known as “museum of
international skyscrappers" in east bank and the
sparkling water flowing in the river consist of the most famous night
view of Shanghai.
Last but least,I would suggest the readers to visit Ancient City Wall in Xian to experience a memorable Moon Festival celebration where it is relatively high and there are no skyscrapers hindering the view.Visitors may watch dance and song performances at the south gate of the City Wall on the night of Mid-Autumn Festival.
As a conclusion, it is important for the younger generations to appreciate this festival as it related to our origin. As globalization takes place, generation these days tend to leave out traditional customs and start to modernized every celebration and might as well include the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is not necessarily a bad thing but it is better to pay respect to our beloved ancestors for leaving a great legacy regarding the Mid-Autumn Festival. So i hope the youngsters start to indulge themselves in celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival following the proper custom instead of playing phone and wasting their time on social media, because we should care more about our traditional culture but not the nonsense from the Internet. Doing nonsense will low down our image and do not look in good condition Furthermore,i will suggest everyone to pray with all their heart and never stop doing good deeds and be kind to everyone. In my opinion , all young people should know more about our festival culture. For example , i will pray in my heart with the small wishes such as hope everyone healthy and everything going well .
